Weakened Presteigne find Bartestree far too strong

Bartestree net their third goal in the pre-season win at Llanandras Park

The latest pre-season friendly at Llanandras Park ultimately turned out to be something of a mismatch in terms of the scoreline, but manager Adriano Girolami still felt this was a useful exercise.

“The players got valuable game time in the run up to the new season but they were clearly very strong,” Adge told the website after the game.

“There were one or two players who showed up well and have made sure they remain in my thinking in terms of the first-team squad.

“But when you look at some of the players Bartestree had in their squad, it was always going to be very tough for us,” he added.

Bartestree, boasting the likes of the former Newbridge striker Matt Aubrey in their ranks were effectively out of sight in the first 20 minutes in which they scored four times, including a penalty.

Simon Washington in the Presteigne goal made a number of fine saves to keep the score respectable in the first half, but Bartestree went on to win the game 12-0.

But, with only a handful of first-team players available – partly due to Danny Evans’ wedding taking place  at Shobdon – the Reserve players who stepped up deserve credit for sticking to the task throughout.

They actually enjoyed a very good 10-minute spell in the first half in which the visiting keeper made a couple of smart saves.

No side likes to go down by such a margin, but Adge was making the point afterwards that, in the long run, this might do the players more good than harm as they had to work hard throughout and so they would have benefited from match practice.
