Preview of the weekend action

Presteigne St Andrews FC
There were 10 goals in the opening home game of the season

After all the excitement surrounding the Groundhoppers weekend, things should take on something of a more normal look on Saturday, 1 September when Presteigne St Andrews will make the long trip to Aberdyfi.

There was never a dull moment in Presteigne’s opening game of the season in which we ended up drawing 5-5 with Rhosgoch Rangers and, while he would have been pleased by his side’s goalscoring prowess, it’s a fair doubt manager Adriano Girolami would have been looking at the defensive side of things this week.

Mind you, it’s a pretty fair bet Adge’s opposite number at Aberdyfi will be thinking along roughly the same lines as the Ceredigion side opened their league programme with a 6-5 home win over Bont.

That game was played in front of 324 supporters as it was also part of the Groundhoppers weekend.

Anyone who took in both the Presteigne and Aberdyfi games would certainly have had their money’s worth – 21 goals in two matches!

Meanwhile, Bobby Morgan and Mark Weiland’s Reserves will be at Llanandras Park where they will continue their tough start to the season with a home game against Builth Wells Reserves.

The Reserves were without a game last weekend due to the Groundhoppers game, but they returned to action on Tuesday night when they lost 3-4 at  Radnor Valley.

Clearly Bobby and ‘Weido’s’ squad will depend on the relative strength of the first-team squad heading for Aberdyfi, but they will be keen to make home advantage count against Builth’s second string.

Both games are due to kick off at 2.30pm and it’s hoped to have the results up online at some stage later on Saturday evening.
