Second successive draw for the Under 18s

Presteigne St Andrews FC
Manager Roy Simcock mulls over two draws from two games

Presteigne St Andrews FC’s Under 18s were held to a 2-2 draw by visiting Lads Club in their opening home match in the HFA Floodlit Youth League at Llanandras Park on Thursday, 27 September.

This result follows on from the 2-2 draw in their first match of the season at Ledbury a week ago.

Presteigne started the game brightly and were deservedly ahead inside the first 10 minutes when Ieuan Price was on target.

But this served to stir Lads club into action and they upped their game considerably throughout the remainder of the first half.

The Hereford-based visitors deservedly drew level shortly before the interval and so the sides turned around all square at 1-1.

The Under 18s were back in front in the second period when a Presteigne player burst into the area where he was brought down from behind leaving the referee no choice other than to point to the spot.

Elliot Morris kept his cool from 12 yards to score from the penalty and so Roy Simcock’s side was back in front.

But Lads Club were clearly made of stern stuff as they again battled back to equalise – this time around 15 minutes from time.

Presteigne might have won the game in the closing stages in which they created a couple of good chances, but it wasn’t to be and so both sides had to make do with a point.

So, two points from their opening two matches for the Under 18s who will next be in action on Wednesday, 3 October when they will head to Hinton for a 7.30pm kick off.

It is hoped to have a more detailed report up on the Under 18s’ page of the site at some stage early next week.
