Both games off today

Both matches have been postponed

As had been widely anticipated, both of the scheduled matches for Saturday, 29 December have been called off due to waterlogged pitches.

The first team had been due to go to Knighton Town for the return fixture following the Boxing Day meeting at Llanandras Park, while the Reserves had been due to host Newbridge Reserves.

But it will come as no great surprise to anyone to hear the games were called 0ff – for the benefit of those who don’t live in the Presteigne area – it caned it down all night and this fell on top of already saturated pitches.

So, yet more games to rearrange later in the season but it was the only sensible thing to do as there was no way the games could have gone ahead.

By way of a comparison, I took a call at home at 7.30 this morning from Hereford United FC telling me their game was off and that the only sport for which Edgar Street was suitable was sub-aqua, so if they were having problems, it was always going to be a long shot that we would be playing.

So, next up it will be a home game for the first team on Saturday, 5 January when they will take on Aberystwyth University in the Central Wales Cup.

The Reserves will be hoping for better luck given their recent run of games being called 0ff – but they are due to go to Sennybridge next Saturday and not for nothing is their ground called ‘Riverside’ – it might well want to dry up a fair bit if that one is to go ahead.
