Another entertaining game against Hay St Marys

Presteigne St Andrews FC came away from Forest Road with a point after an entertaining 3-3 draw in their Spar Mid Wales League, second division game against Hay St Marys.

This was almost the original game of two halves as Presteigne were very much in the box seats at half-time as they went into the dressing rooms with a healthy 2-0 lead.

Duane Anning had the Llanandras Park side ahead after five minutes when he profited from good work by Ieuan Crowe and Frankie Beki, whose cross picked out Duane allowing him to plant his header past the Hay keeper.

Presteigne then doubled their lead courtesy of a fine solo effort from Ioan Hughes. He collected the ball on halfway and then set off on a run that ended with him firing home from just inside the area.

Yes, Ioan rode his luck to a degree on that run as the ball richocheted off a couple of Hay defenders, but Ioan stuck to his task and deserved his goal.

2-0 up at half-time, so what could possibly go wrong?  Well, the answer to that was that Hay suddenly decided to up their game and they hit back to score two goals of their own to level the game.

It really didn’t look as though it was going to be Presteigne’s day when Hay then went in front after the unfortunate Simon Hamer in the Presteigne goal appeared to palm the ball into his own net as the home side went in front with only 10 minutes to go.

But Presteigne stuck to their task and they salvaged a point from the game when Frankie Beki levelled the game at 3-3 with a goal a minute from time.

While there will be those who will feel that – as Presteigne were two goals to the good at half-time – this would have to go down as  two points dropped, the early consensus suggests that a draw was probably about right.

There was no game for the Reserves as their scheduled Mid Wales League (South) game against Knighton Town Reserves was called off due to around three inches of snow on the Llanandras Park pitch.

While the snow has given to some degree today, the club chairman Alan Randell reports the Spar Mid Wales League, second division fixture on Monday, 1 April is still very much in doubt.

The plan is he will take a look at the pitch at some stage on Easter Sunday and we will then update the website as soon as we have more information.
