Presteigne St Andrews FC’s defender Tom Ammonds has been reflecting on the dramatic Spar Mid Wales League win at Knighton Town on Saturday, 28 April.

Presteigne were two goals down at the break, but ‘Ammo’ didn’t feel this was a true reflection of the way the game had gone.

“We started off reasonably well actually and I was a bit disappointed we were two goals down,” he said.

“The first one came from a needless free kick and it was a bit of a direct ball in and unfortunately their striker nipped in and flicked it over Simon [Hamer].

“Then their second goal came from our own corner which was even worse, I suppose.

“We lost it in their left wing so our right back position and it was just humped up the line where Christian Roberts took on Ioan Hughes and crossed it in but it took a bit of a deflection and looped in.

“But to be 2-0 down was quite disappointing as we had chances,” he said.

There were some frank exchanges in the away dressing room at half-time and it worked as Presteigne hit back to score three goals of their own after the break – Frankie Beke scored twice, with Ieuan Crowe maintaining his recent good form with a goal of his own.

But ‘Ammo’ said they were indebted to their keeper for ensuring they came away from Bryn-y-Castell with all three points.

“They had a really good chance later on and Simon Hamer made a fantastic save from Connor Bird and that was about it,” he said.

“But, other than that, we saw the game out quite comfortably,” he added.
