A Thursday-night win and Saturday-afternoon cup final

Presteigne Reserves rounded off their Mid Wales League (South) programme with a 2-1 home win over Knighton Town Reserves.

The game was switched to the school field in order to prevent any risk of players of both teams being ‘barbecued’ by the various stuff groundsman Tracy Hammond has put on the Llanandras Park pitch to kill off the weeds – I know, you can tell I am across all the technical terms…

Anyway, the change of venue didn’t appear to do Mark Weiland’s side any harm as they ran out 2-1 victors – a result that saw them end the season in eighth place in the league table.

The three points earned last night saw them leapfrog Brecon Town and an eighth-place finish represents a pretty good effort when you consider the Ressies failed to pick up a point from their opening seven games of the season.

But they will have little time to rest on their laurels as they have the chance to put some silverware on the table in what will be their final game of the season tomorrow – Saturday, 25 May.

Mark Weiland will take his side to Lant Field for the Builth Spa Cup final in which they will take on Builth Wells Reserves in the Builth Spa Cup final.

Builth’s Reserve side were in the running for the Mid Wales League (South) title right up to the final couple of weeks when ‘Weedo’s’ side rained on their parade by taking a thoroughly deserved point from a 2-2 draw.

On the day, even some of the Builth officials admitted a draw was the very least the Presteigne side had deserved from the game.

There is a coach running to the final and there might be one or two places left if you are quick – you need to speak to Mark Weiland as soon as possible.

I am reliably informed the Builth Spa Cup final will be at 3.00pm – best of luck to the Ressies and here’s hoping they bring home the trophy
