The Reserves in action at Builth

Result: Presteigne Reserves 2 v 0 Builth Wells Reserves

Presteigne Reserves are in Builth Spa Cup final action this afternoon [Saturday, 25 May] in which they are taking on Builth Wells Reserves at Lant Field.

The game was a 3.00pm kick off and we will do our best to keep you up to date with their progress throughout the course of the game.

The sides drew 2-2 when they met at Builth in a Mid Wales League (South) game only a couple of weeks ago.

8 minutes: 0-0, with Presteigne having the bulk of the early possession but yet to force the home side’s keeper into a save.

10 minutes: Builth’s first meaningful effort was a long-range shot that was well wide, but a follow up break down the right ended with a shot clipping the Presteigne cross bar.

18 minutes: Builth coming more into the game, but Presteigne still looking the more dangerous going forward – still 0-0.

22 minutes: Free kick to Builth about 25 yards out is curled around the wall, but a comfortable save.

27 minutes: Another chance to Builth who break down the right, but a cross shot was always rising high and wide. Still 0-0.

33 minutes: Another effort from Builth, but again over the bar from distance.

34 minutes: GOAL!! Alan Stocker puts Tom Watkins away, and he does well to lay the ball off to DUANE ANNING – he still has a bit to do, but lobs the keeper to put Presteigne in front.

39 minutes: Referee awards a goal kick to Builth but his assistant flags for a Presteigne corner which is given. The first ball in is cleared, the second results in Alan Stocker heading just wide.

Half-time: Builth Wells Reserves 0 v 1 Presteigne Reserves. Duane Anning’s goal separates the sides, but Builth will point to having the more clear cut chances. I’m off for a cup of tea…back when the second half gets underway…!

46 minutes: We are back underway in the second half – no changes to either side.

53 minutes: Still Presteigne Reserves lead 1-0 in a game being played in very warm conditions – could be survival of the fittest…

55 minutes: Corner to Presteigne which sees Ryan Stokes heading wide.

56 minutes: Presteigne concede a free kick for handball on the Builth left which is cleared at the second attempt – Presteigne break away but the move ends with Alan Stocker stabbing his shot well wide.

60 minutes: Presteigne need a number of efforts to clear under concerted Builth pressure but eventually scramble it away.

61 minutes: Max Powell requires treatment for an injury that leads to a break in play and then Builth feel they have equalised when Presteigne miss out at the near post and the ball is bundled home….BUT…the referee gives a free kick for a foul on the goalkeeper, so Presteigne still lead 1-0.

65 minutes: The tackles are starting to fly in now…Builth enjoying more of the possession and come close when a goal-bound effort is headed off the line by Duane Anning.

69 minutes: Now Duane Anning is at it at the other end when he chases on to an Alan Stocker through ball, holds of the attentions of two defenders, but fires well over.

72 minutes: GOAL!! Presteigne Reserves are awarded a free kick on the edge of the box and IOAN HUGHES steps up to fire his shot past the wall and low to the keeper’s right into the corner of the net – 2-0 to Presteigne Reserves!

77 minutes: Adam Strangwood is replaced by Danny Evans.

81 minutes: Yellow card for Tom Watkins for questioning a very questionable offside decision….

83 minutes: Best chance of the half for Builth when Presteigne’s defence was looking for an offside flag that never came and Builth’s effort from close range is beaten away.

86 minutes: Into the dying stages of this one and Presteigne still lead 2-0, with Builth firing in shots from distance.

88 minutes: Free kick awarded to Builth wide on the right leads to pinball in the Presteigne box, but another shot goes high over the bar.

90 minutes: ….and some… as we are well into stoppage time with Builth Reserves pinning Presteigne back…

92 minutes: A Builth corner results in an effort that comes back off the underside of the bar and is then scrambled away for a corner.

90-several minutes: Final whistle – well done Presteigne Reserves…Builth Spa Cup winners 2012-13!
