A first away win for Danny Williams and his side

Presteigne St Andrews FC enjoyed another productive weekend as the first team enjoyed its first league victory of the season, while the Reserves picked up a second successive 3-3 draw.

It was a long trip north for Danny Williams’ first team as they headed to Machynlleth for their Spar Mid Wales League, second division game but the journey was to prove worthwhile.

The game was goal-less for an hour although I am told it was an entertaining but physical encounter, but it was Danny Williams’ side that was to make the breakthrough when Max Powell put them ahead.

But this lead was to prove shortlived as Machynlleth were back on level terms within a minute, so this was to prove a test of character for the visitors, but one they were to come through with flying colours.

Christian Roberts restored Presteigne’s lead and this time there was to be no way back for Machynlleth as Adam Farmer and Nick Evans added further goals to round off a fine 4-1 away win.

The initial reports suggest this was a good all-round performance with Callum Matthews winning the chairman’s nomination for man of the match – you win nothing other than his admiration and a mention on the website!

Meanwhile, Duane Anning was to have an afternoon to remember as the Reserves battled out a 3-3 draw with Newcastle at Llanandras Park.

Duane helped himself to a hat-trick as Mark Weiland’s side overcame the loss of a man to a sending off after only half-an-hour of this one.

As yet, I don’t have any details of just how the scoring went at Llanandras Park, but as soon as I do get more details I will update the site accordingly.

But to play an hour of the game with 10 men against a Newcastle side that is normally towards the business end of the league shows some resolve as, for the second game running, the Reserves produced a battling performance to earn themselves a point against one of the fancied sides in the Mid Wales League (South).
