Round up of the weekend action

Presteigne St Andrews FC
No joy for the Reserves versus Rhayader

Presteigne St Andrews FCBerriew are the early-season leaders in the Spar Mid Wales League, first division and they put down something of a marker as they went to Dolgellau and buried the home side 9-0.

Berriew have four wins from four and are two points clear of Llanfair United and Aberaeron, who were 4-0 home winners over Welshpool Town.

Llanfair were 2-0 home winners over Tywyn Bryncrug on Friday evening, while Llandrindod Wells – who didn’t have a league game this weekend – are fourth in the table, but with a very healthy-looking goal difference.

Carno and Bow Street are both level on points with Llan’dod after both enjoyed convincing home wins – Carno beat Builth Wells 3-0, while Bow Street went one better in beating visiting Llansantffraid Village 4-0.

Four Crosses came away from Dyffryn Banw with a 3-1 victory, while the day’s other game saw Montgomery Town restore some semblance of normality to their season following the previous week’s extraordinary 13-o home defeat by Llandrindod Wells.

Monty went to Waterloo Rovers were they battled out a 1-1 draw and, despite that heavy defeat, they are only just below halfway in the fledgling league table.

In division two, Presteigne St Andrews are top of the table – albeit after only two games of the campaign – after their 4-1 win at Machynlleth.

Presteigne are level with Knighton Town at the top – Knighton didn’t play a league match this weekend – while Abermule were the other winners at this level as they saw off visiting Newbridge-on-Wye by the only goal of the game.

The day’s other match at this level finished all square at Kerry as the home side was held to a 2-2 draw by Hay St Marys.

As for the Mid Wales League (South), there are no collated results available at the time of writing, although we do, of course, know Presteigne Reserves – with a record of five points from their opening three games – will be pushing towards the top of the early-season table.
