Round up of the weekend action

Presteigne St Andrews FC
A tough day on the road

Presteigne St Andrews FCCarno remain top of the Spar Mid Wales League, three points clear of Berriew, but they were clearly in a game when they hosted Llansantffraid Village.

In the end, Carno came through, but they were made to work hard before securing the points with a 4-3 victory.

Berriew remain second in the table – they were in FAW Trophy action – while Waterloo Rovers are up to third after doing their goal difference the power of good in winning 14-0 at bottom side Dolgellau.

Times are clearly tough at Dolgellau for whom this was a 12th straight league defeat – they have now shipped 64 league goals so far this season.

Elsewhere, there were 2-1 wins for Llanfair United – who beat visiting Aberystwyth University, and Bow Street, who won at Montgomery Town, while Builth Wells and Aberaeron battled out a 0-0 draw.

There was one game in the second division where something had to give at Talgarth Town.  Both they and visitors Kerry went into the match looking for a first league win of the season and the home side prevailed 1-0.

There were three ER Jenkins Cup matches scheduled, but the Pool B match between Bont and Newbridge was postponed.

Rhosgoch Rangers were 3-0 winners over Knighton Town in Pool A, while Hay St Marys beat visiting Presteigne St Andrews 3-2 at Forest Road.

In the FAW Trophy, Berriew were the  big winners locally in the third round as they came away from Venture Community with a 9-0 victory.

Machynlleth are also through to round four – they won 3-0 at home to Creigau while Tywyn Bryncrug will join them after they beat visiting Rhos Aelwyd 3-2.

Four Crosses hopes of a good run in the Trophy are over – they went down 4-1 at AAA Chirk, while Dyffryn Banw will have to try again as their scheduled tie at FC Nomads was postponed.

Llanidloes Town Reserves have gone top of the Mid Wales League (South) after they beat visiting Radnor Valley 4-2 and Rhayader Town Reserves didn’t play.

Sennybridge remain in touch – they are three points back in third place after a 2-0 home win over Talgarth Town Reserves.

Presteigne Reserves lost ground when they went down 3-2 against Builth Wells Reserves at Llanandras Park, while St Harmon remain at the foot of the table after a 2-0 defeat at Llandrindod Town Reserves.

In the second round of the Radnorshire Cup, Bronllys sprang something of a surprise in winning 3-2 at Rhosgoch Rangers, while Talgarth Town beat visiting Newcastle 3-2 – the Sennybridge-Presteigne St Andrews tie was postponed.
