Central Wales Cup – clarification

Presteigne St Andrews FC

Presteigne St Andrews FCPresteigne St Andrews FC can confirm the club has decided to withdraw from this season’s Central Wales Cup and so presumably our scheduled opponents will have a bye through to the next round.

As most supporters will know, we have tried to play the game twice, but on each occasion it was called off due to waterlogged pitches.

Under the rules of the competition, this means the game would then be switched to Llandrindod Wells and it was due to be played this evening – Wednesday, 26 February.

But this was fraught with problems as a number of players were unavailable due to work commitments, and would not have been able to make it to The Broadway in time for tonight’s game.

Normally this would not be so much of an issue in that we could call in players from the Reserves and still field a competitive team.

However, the Reserves’ recent win in the J Emrys Morgan Cup quarter-final tie means that – understandably – those in Mark Weiland’s squad are unwilling to potentially jeopardise a place in the squad for that semi-final.

The rules of the J Emrys Morgan Cup restrict players to only a handful of senior appearances in a season and so the club has relunctantly agreed to pull out of the Central Wales Cup.

We wish Llandrindod Wells FC every success for the remainder of the competition.
