Preview of the weekend action

One home game in December for the Reserves

The Reserves will have home advantage on Saturday

For the first time seemingly since dinosaurs roamed the earth, Presteigne St Andrews FC’s first team should return to action on Saturday, 1 March.

The last time the squad had an outing was actually on Boxing Day, but a lot has happened since then – not least the fact we have got a new management team in place.

Danny Ives will finally get to take charge for the first time when he takes the side to Machynlleth for a Spar Mid Wales League Cup tie.

Machynlleth are in the shake up for promotion to the first division as – while they are currently in third place in the table – they are only four points behind second-placed Knighton Town with four games in hand.

Mach have lost only twice in the league so far this season – although, strangely, both of those reversals have come on their own ground.

If you are making the long trip to Machynlleth for this game, a reminder the match is due to kick off at 2.15pm.

As for the Reserves, well, they will have to put the euphoria (and excessive amounts of alcohol) of last weekend behind them as they return to Mid Wales League (South) action.

Mark Weiland’s side is due to open what is promising to be a very tough month of fixtures with a home game against Sennybridge.

‘Weedo’s’ side will aim to become the first team to beat Sennybridge in a league fixture so far this season when they clash at Llanandras Park, where the kick off will be at 2.30pm.

But a win for the Reserves would see them leapfrog the ‘bridge into fifth place in the table, so there is plenty on this one for both teams.

It’s hoped to have the results of the games up online at some stage on Saturday evening, assuming I can extract the relevant information reasonably painlessly from those in the know.
