Presteigne St Andrews FC rounded off their Spar Mid Wales League, second-division programme with a 4-3 home win over Talgarth Town on Saturday, 26 April.

Danny Ives’ side would have gone into this game in a reasonably confident frame of mind having won at Talgarth earlier in the month, but that confidence looked misplaced early on as the home side found itself two goals down inside the first 10 minutes.

But they rallied and Callum Matthews put Presteigne back in the game five minutes later, with Gareth Bull then netting his first senior goal 10 minutes after that to square things up at 2-2.

Presteigne had turned the game on its head by half-time when Callum popped up with his second goal of the afternoon to ensure the home team headed for the dressing rooms with a 3-2 advantage.

In the second half, Presteigne looked to have made the game safe when another youngster – Shane Griffiths – netted their fourth goal with around 20 minutes to go.

Talgarth refused to lie down and came back with a third goal of their own with around five minutes to go to set up a grandstand finale.

But Danny Ives’ side held on for the victory to ensure the season ended on a high note – not only on Saturday, but also because they had rounded off the league campaign with three straight victories.

As for the Reserves, they had no game on Saturday but had been due to take on Penybont in the semi-final of the Radnor Valley Cup on Sunday.

But Penybont were unable to raise a side for the tie and so withdrew, all of which means Mark Weiland’s side effectively has a bye through to the final in which they will take on either Radnor Valley themselves, or Bronllys, who were due to play their semi-final tie later on Sunday afternoon.
