Presteigne St Andrews FC will return to Spar Mid Wales League, second-division action tonight [Friday, 17 October] when they host Hay St Marys at Llanandras Park.

This is promising to be a very tough game for the home side as Hay are flying this season with a perfect record of eight wins from eight league games so far.

They were also involved in the most extraordinary game of the season to date at second division level last weekend when they came away from bottom side, Penybont  with a 9-4 victory.

In fact, scoring goals has not exactly proved a problem for Hay St Marys this season – so far, they have averaged five per league game.

But there is a chink of daylight for Jamie Allen and his side – Hay have also proved they can be vulnerable at the back, but only in the sense they have shipped 16 goals so far this season.

One thing is for certain, though, Presteigne are going to have to be at their defensive best in this one, while they will also have to make the most of any opportunities that fall their way.

We haven’t won at home in the league so far this season – wouldn’t tonight be a great time to break that particular duck?

As for the Reserves, they will be in action on Saturday, 18 October and they, too, will have home advantage.

St Harmon will be the visitors to Llanandras Park for a Mid Wales League (South) game and player-manager Mark Weiland will be looking to his side to make home advantage count.

If there was an early-season award for ‘most improved team’ in the Mid Wales League (South), then St Harmon would be among the frontrunners for that title as they are clearly a much stronger side than last season.

The Swifts have already won twice on the road this season – they picked up back-to-back away wins at Brecon Northcote and Radnor Valley in September.

But ‘Weedo’ and his side will still fancy their chances in this one and it’s to be hoped the recent ‘green shoots of recovery’ in their season continue to sprout this weekend.

The kick off at Llanandras Park for the Hay St Marys game on Friday night will be at 7.30pm, while the Reserves’ game against St Harmon on Saturday afternoon is due to get underway at 2.30pm.

Admission for the first-team game will be £2.50 for adults; £1.50 for senior citizens and £1.00 for youngsters under the age of 16.

If you are heading down to the Reserves’ game on Saturday, then it will cost you £2.00 for adults and £1.00 for concessions.
