Kai’s hat-trick can’t save the Under 17s

The Under 17s missed out in a high-scoring game

Presteigne Juniors Under 17s were involved in another high-scoring Herefordshire Junior Football League game at the weekend, but again they came out on the wrong side of the ledger.

Haydn Williams and Alan Crighton’s side went down 5-4 in a game at Ledbury – a match that could charitably described as ‘physical’ but which the management team felt went beyond that at times.

You have to feel especially sorry for Presteigne’s Kai Dayas who netted a hat-trick in this match and yet he still ended up on the losing side.

“This was not a nice game of football although we came from 2-0 down to lead 3-2 at half-time, thanks to Kai’s hat-trick,” said Haydn.

“As in the previous week, Ledbury came out in the second half and just stopped us playing by any means possible.

“They finished the game with two yellow cards and a red card, while we ended up with only 10 players as all three substitutes were injured which tells its own story.

“In that second half Ledbury scored three goals – two of which came from long balls over the top, while the third resulted from a well-worked free kick.

“We got it back to 5-4 through Jamie Barnett but we were dead on our feet at the final whistle and I am not sure if we would have managed extra time.

“We have no game next week so hopefully it will give the lads time to recover before Leominster at home on Sunday, 9 November.”
