Presteigne St Andrews FCThe Spar Mid Wales League has confirmed that Llansantffraid Village have withdrawn from the first division ahead of the new season.

The league’s official website has published the letter received from the club.

“It is with regret that I now write to confirm to you that Llansantffraid Village F.C. wish to resign from the Spar League Division 1,” it read.

“This course of action has been forced upon the club by a massive loss of players.

“I apologise for the inconveniences that this will cause to you and your officers but it is a decision that the club felt was better made now [rather] than once the season was under way.

“In closing, I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of all at Llansantffraid to wish you all the best for the coming season.”

I am sure everyone connected with the club and the league will hope Llansantffraid Village are able to regroup and come back in future seasons, while it’s also to be hoped that they are not hammered by a heavy fine.

While there are rules laid down and these have to be implemented, it is difficult to see how kicking a club when it is clearly down helps anyone.
