Another good crowd for derby night at Llanandras Park

Presteigne Reserves were beaten 3-2 by visiting Knighton Town Reserves in their Mid Wales League (South) match at Llanandras Park on Tuesday, 1 September.

Tom Ammonds was my eyes and ears at this one and he felt the Reserves were a bit unfortunate to have come out of the game with nothing to show for their efforts.

“I thought they were unlucky not to get a point – the Ressies went 1-0 down when Billy Hyett scored for Knighton,” said Tom.

“It could have been worse as Mark Wozencroft missed a penalty, only for Rob Williams to equalise from a corner – at least, I think it was from a corner, but I was in the clubhouse at the time!

“Wozzie [Mark Wozencroft] then atoned for his earlier error by scoring just before half-time make it 2-1 to Knighton at the break.

“Both teams pressed in the second half and this led to both goalkeepers being forced into saves before Wozzie again scored with 20 or so minutes to go.

“We rallied and Merv Stephens duly obliged from the penalty spot after a foul – so, 3-2.

“We then were in the ascendancy but could not find an equaliser, but there was a very good crowd for this one and they were rewarded with a decent football match to watch.”
