‘Weedo’ was less than impressed by the side’s first-half showing

My thanks for first-team manager Mark Weiland for his thoughts on Saturday afternoon’s Spar Mid Wales League, second-division defeat at Builth Wells.

Presteigne were beaten 4-2 at Lant Field and ended the game with only nine players so there was plenty of food for thought for ‘Weedo’ when he reflected on this one.

“We didn’t start the game well at all and deserved to be 2-0 down at half time,” admitted Mark.

“I won’t lie, I didn’t hold back at half time and told the lads this wasn’t good enough.

“It seemed to work as we then hit back with  goals from our best player in the game Alan Stocker and Owen Williams.

“We then nearly scored a third as Tom Crighton’s shot was pushed on to the bar and, although we appealed the ball had crossed the line when it came down off the bar, it was not given.

“We then had two minutes of madness, starting when Kai Dayas was given a straight red card for a dangerous tackle.

“I thought it was a very harsh decision as he did win the ball but the Builth players’ reaction helped the ref give the red in my opinion.

“A minute later and Tom Ammonds was sent off for a second yellow for shouting at the ref – I think Tom knows this was very stupid from a player of his experience.

“As were then down to nine men it was always going to be a very hard task and we conceded another two goals.

“After a terrible first-half  display, I was happy with the way the lads came out and got back into the game.

“On another day we would have scored that third goal and gone on to win the game but we are not getting any luck at the moment.

“The two red cards couldn’t come at a worse time as we’ve got several players missing already due to injuries.

“Our next game is Bettws away this Saturday and, like us, they need a win as they’ve had a few bad results.”
