My thanks for first-team manager Mark Weiland for updating me on the state of the nation after the 1-1 draw in their Spar Mid Wales League, second-division match at Abermule on Saturday, 27 February.

“Abermule came out the blocks really quickly and scored about 15 minutes into the game as Simon Hamer made a save and the rebound was put in,” said Mark.

“We were mainly defending for the rest of the half but right on the stroke of half- time a long ball was brought down by Kieran Lusher who beat his man and fired into the bottom corner.

“It was a great time to score and spirits were high at half time.

“The second half began like the first with Abermule having most of the possession and us looking dangerous on the break.

“Abermule’s only problem was that they had only about two shots on target in the second half, but they also had five or six corners but we defended these brilliantly.

“We almost nicked all three points as Josh Carini went through one-on-one and lobbed the keeper but it hit the bar.

“I think we definitely deserved a point from all the effort the lads put in.

“Our back four was solid and the rest of the team played out of their  skins.

“It was also a very good point for us as we had six players out from the game the week before and the lads that came in were all young lads and they all played really well.

“If we put the effort in that we did Saturday we will definitely pick something up against newbridge this Saturday.”

As for the Reserves, it was to prove a disappointing day for them as they went down 2-1 at home to Builth Wells Reserves.

I don’t have too many details as yet, but – were I a betting man – I would probably put good money on Duane Anning and John Bright’s preparations being disrupted by call-ups to the first-team squad.

More details on the Reserves’ game if and when they come to hand.
