Presteigne St Andrews FC’s new reserve-team boss Tom Ammonds has been talking about why he has decided to move into management.

‘Ammo’ was formally announced as the new manager of Presteigne Reserves at the club’s Annual General Meeting.

He has been telling presteignestandrewsfc.co.uk that he felt the time was right as he had reached the age where regular first-team football was becoming tougher.

“I have been thinking about getting out of the playing side for so many years and the body is starting to give up on me football-wise,” he said.

“The management side of it really does interest me and with the crop of youngsters we have got here, I just think they need a little more guidance.”

So, does mean it is the end of the road for Tom as a player?  He says it is a case of ‘never say never’, but insists he sees his main role from here on in as being in the technical area.

“A manager – first and foremost a manager,” he said. “I am looking to keep the bulk of the very young squad which will help ‘Weedo’ in the coming years on the playing side.

“I will obviously sign on because they have still got this rotation subs [system] so I will be a player if needs be but my main role will be as the manager.”
