Presteigne St Andrews bowed out of the FAW Welsh Cup at the first time of asking when they were beaten 3-2 by visiting Borth United on Saturday, 20 August.

Caretaker manager Tom Ammonds admitted he was at a loss to work out just how his side had lost this one.

“Matt Strangwood put us one up before half-time but they then hit back to level early in the second period before ‘Strangy’ put us back in front,” said Tom.

“We then had a host of chances to put the game to bed – it is no exaggeration to say that we had at least five really good opportunities.

“But, if you don’t take them, you get punished and fair play to Borth, they hung in there and got the equaliser to make it 2-2.

“Then, in the 88th minute, they had a shot that took a wicked deflection and ended up in the back of our net for what proved to be the winner.

“But I can’t fault any of our players – they gave it their all and if we had been even a bit more clinical in front of goal it would have been a very different outcome.”

Liam Lewis scored twice for Borth United before Ben Burne popped up with the winner.

Disappointing, then, for the first team, but congratulations to Borth United on their win and here’s hoping they go on to have a good run in the competition.
