Presteigne St Andrews FC’s caretaker manager Tom Ammonds has been reflecting on his first two games in charge of the Llanandras Park club.

Tom took over at very short notice when Mark Weiland stepped down from the post after the opening three matches of the Spar Mid Wales League season.

He says it really had been a case of having to hit the ground running: “It’s been very difficult if I am being honest.

“Obviously, with Mark resigning, it was just really a case of getting teams together for the three games that we’ve had.

“The [first-team] game at Penybont on the Wednesday night – I was very happy with that as, although we didn’t win, we now are on the board which was critical for the lads as their confidence has been down.

After a manic week in which there were two first-team games and the Reserves’ opening fixture against Penybont Reserves at Llanandras Park, things should calm down a bit this week.

Tom says he’s looking forward to being able to draw breath and have time to plan for the next fixture at Llanandras Park on Saturday, 27 August.

“We’ve got a free week this week, I suppose – we will be training on Tuesday and Thursday,” said Tom.

“Then, we’ve got the game against Llansantffraid Village on Saturday.

“Again, I don’t really know what Llansantffraid play like but it’s another chance to see where we can go.”
