Simon was again between the sticks for the Representative side

Presteigne St Andrews FC’s goalkeeper Simon Hamer was again in representative action for the Central Wales Football Association on Wednesday, 22 February.

Simon turned out in the match against the North East Wales Football Association at Newtown’s Latham Park.

Presteigne’s boss Tom Ammonds went to watch the game and shares his thoughts on the match with us.

“In the end, the game ended in a 2-2 draw; the Central Wales squad led 1-0 at half-time which, on the balance of play, was just about right,” said Tom.

“NEFA had plenty of possession without really testing Simon Hamer.

“The second half started much more brightly and with more purpose from both sides.

“NEFA had changed their formation which made them much more of a threat and they equalised with about 30 mins to go through the substitute who had been on the pitch for a matter of minutes before chipping Simon who had no chance at all.

“CWFA then upped their game and had numerous chnaces but it was the NEFA that took the lead after a mistake from a CWFA player who lost the ball in midfield.

“A quick pass set their striker through on goal and before Simon could set himself the lively number 9 had lobbed the ball over him – a very tidy finish.

“To their credit, CWFA then dominated the rest of the game with numerous chances, although non that clear cut.

“With minutes remaining, a CWFA susbstitute rode three challenges and cut back on to his left side and scored with a fantastic finish.

“On the balance of play, I would say a draw was probably just about a fair result.

“Simon didn’t have that much to do as he was marshalled very well by his two central defenders but, when called upon, he was in the right place as he has been for most of the season for us!”
