Defeat in the first home league game of the season

Presteigne St Andrews FC’s home league programme in the Spar Mid Wales League, second division got off to a disappointing start when they were beaten 3-1 at home by Dolgellau on Saturday, 19 August.

My thanks to Tom Ammonds for sending me through a match report on events at Llanandras Park.

“It was end to end to begins with; there were a couple of early chances for both sides before Dolgellau took the lead,” said Tom.

“The goal came when the visitors’ left winger cut inside and fired past Simon Hamer.

“Dolgellau then scored what can only be described as goal of the season when their striker scored from just inside his own half.

“The ball broke loose to him and he saw Simon Hamer off his line – he hit it and it went in ff the underside of the bar.

“We continued to press and we got back into the game when we scored  from a corner when the ball fell nicely to Jon Cawley who finished it off.

“Unfortunately a defensive error then let Dolgellau score on the stroke of half time.

“In the second half we huffed and puffed and ht the bar and post but Simon Hamer was also in form making a couple of smart saves.

“Personally I would say that a draw would have been a fair result but we seem to get punished more than others from our own mistakes.

“A special mention for the referee Tom Childs who had a very good game – we can always to be too quick to blame a referee but I thought he gave a very good performance.”

My thanks to Tom for his thoughts on just how the afternoon unfolded in this one and a reminder the first team will have an opportunity to redress the balance on Saturday, 26 August when they meet in the reverse fixture at Dolgellau.
