A successful weekend all round

A very good weekend all round

Both Presteigne St Andrews FC and Presteigne Reserves had plenty to celebrate after the weekend as both enjoyed encouraging victories.

First up, on Friday, 15 September, Presteigne St Andrews proved too strong for visiting Newbridge-on-Wye in their Spar Mid Wales League, second division game.

Shaun Harris’ side ran out 4-2 winners and are third in the table after this weekend’s round of matches although they have played more matches than those sides in and around them.

Josh Gardner scored twice while there were also goals for Joel Layton and Matt Strangwood.

3-0 up at half-time, Presteigne looked in total control, but Newbridge got it back to 3-2 and then had a ‘goal’ ruled out before Josh’s second goal finally made the points safe for the home side.

But a third league win of the season is another major step in the right direction and here’s hoping the first team can build on this in the coming weeks.

As for the Reserves’ game at home on Saturday, 16 September, one player was to steal the headlines in this one.

Visiting St Harmon had no answer to Tom Crichton who was to score all four of the Reserves’ goals as they ran out 4-0 winners.

Joint-managers Mark Weiland and Alan Stocker will be delighted to have secured a first home league win of the season and they’ll be hoping this proves a catalyst for them to kick on in the coming weeks.

I hope to have some reaction from the respective management teams in the next day or so and, when I get it, I will post their thoughts here.

But, in the meantime, well done to everyone involved in both squads
