Mixed fortunes at the weekend

A bit of a mixed weekend

It was a Curate’s Egg of a weekend – good in parts – as the first team produced a fine result on the Ceredigion coast but the Reserves’ interest in the J Emrys Morgan Cup came to an end in the same county.

Shaun Harris will be very satisfied with the first team’s 3-1 victory in their Spar Mid Wales League, second-division game at Aberystwyth University.

The Students have been going well this season although their away form has been better than their results on their own patch.

But the first team hadn’t played for a month and so this was always likely to be something of an unknown quantity in terms of the performance.

But Shaun needn’t have worried as his side opened out a 2-0 half-time lead thanks to goals from Matt Strangwood and Tom Crichton.

When Dan Brazier than scored an absolute belter in the second period, that was to prove the icing on the cake and not even a late consolation goal by the home side could take any of the gloss of what was a fine performance.

Sadly, it wasn’t to be for the Reserves who headed down to Ffostrasol for their rearranged J Emrys Morgan Cup third-round tie.

By all accounts the management team was struggling for a side in this one and – while taking nothing away from those hardy souls who did make the trip – this might well have been a factor in the scoreline.

Ffostrasol ran out 6-0 winners and so it’s the end of the road for the Ressies this season.

Best of luck to Ffostrasol for the remainder of the competition and the Reserves will now – as they say – focus on the league.
