Shaun will be looking for a positive response from the first team

‘Bouncebackability’ is what Shaun Harris will be looking for from his first-team squad when they welcome Talgarth Town to Llanandras Park on Saturday, 20 January.

After a promising start to the season, the first team has lost its way in recent weeks with three straight defeats.

The most recent of these came at the hands of an admittedly high-flying Llansantffraid Village last time out, so Shaun will be keen for his squad to turn things around in their Spar Mid Wales League outing this weekend.

Talgarth will arrive at Llanandras Park second-bottom of the division with only two league wins so far this season.

They haven’t scored in the league since 12 November – that is three games – and were most recently beaten 3-0 at home by Abermule, while they also went down 4-0 at Penybont, a result that gave the ‘bont their first league win of the season.

But history will tell us that any Talgarth side is more than capable of being a handful and so the first team would do well not to read too much into that recent sequence of results.

Their last league win was in August, but they are the only side to have taken a point from Division Two leaders, Builth Wells at Lant Field when they came away with a 1-1 draw.

The kick off at Llanandras Park will be at 2.30pm and the admission prices will be the usual £3.00 for adults; £1.50 for senior citizens and £1.00 for youngsters under the age of 16.

As for the Reserves, they will head to St Harmon for their latest Mid Wales League (South) encounter.

After a month away from competitive action, the Ressies returned last weekend with a hard-fought 1-0 win at Brecon Northcote Reserves.

Mark Weiland and Alan Stocker will be aiming to build on that but they will know a trip to the Swifts on a cold January afternoon is a test of character as much as anything and so they’ll no doubt be telling their players they have to be up for the challenge.

It’s hoped to have the results of both games up online at some stage on Saturday evening, but good luck to both sides.
