‘Weedo’ was happy by the way his side had dug in at St Harmon

Presteigne Reserves ran out 5-2 winners in their Mid Wales League (South) match at St Harmon on Saturday, 20 January.

My thanks to joint-manager Mark Weiland who has sent over his thoughts on the performance on what was reportedly a ‘pretty fresh’ day at St Harmon, weather-wise.

“We took the lead in the first five minutes when a long ball was misread by the St Harmon defender who tried to head it back to the goalkeeper, but it ran past him into the goal.

“We then had a bad spell where we couldn’t get our passing game going and kept hold of the ball for too long which led to  the equaliser.

“We gave away a free kick which was swung into the box and converted by a header which Hamer knows he could of done a little better with.

“We started a lot better in the second half and went back in front courtesy of Duane Anning who finished from a cross.

“St Harmon then equalised; it was poor defending from us that allowed the St Harmon winger an easy finish.

“We then had our best spell of the game and good work from Bobby Bird led to him setting up Josh Gardiner up for his first.

“Tom Lewis scored from a cross-shot free kick which caught the out the home side’s goalkeeper as it floated straight over his head.

“Josh then got his second from a volley from the edge of the box.

“This was a good win in tough conditions – in the first half, we knew we were poor and responded well after a chat at half-time.

“St Harmon is always a hard place to go so we were very glad to come away with the three points.

“It was good for Josh Gardiner to get amongst the goals as he works hard every week and sometimes gets no reward.

“The win keeps us in touch with the three teams above us and, with a good run of games to come, I’m confident we can go on to finish second or third,”
