It is a Wednesday-night trip to Rhayader for the Ressies

Presteigne Reserves are due to return to action on Wednesday, 7 March when they will make the trip to Rhayader Town in the Mid Wales League (South).

As far as we are aware, it is very much ‘game on’ at the Weirglodd and this promises to be a tough game for Mark Weiland and Alan Stocker’s side.

Rhayader took a voluntary relegation from the Cymru Alliance in the summer and were parachuted down to the bottom of the pyramid, so ended up in the ‘South’.

But they have clearly kept a core of very good players and, while they are second in the table going into tonight’s game, any team that finishes above them in the league table this season will surely win the title.

Llanidloes Town Reserves currently lead the way but Rhayader will go into the game knowing that, were they to beat the Ressies by more than two goals, they would go top of the division on goal difference with two games in hand.

But Mark and Alan will take confidence from the fact they were beaten by only the one goal when they went to Llani’s second string in their last outing on 24 February.

They will certainly be looking for an improvement on the opening game of the season at Llanandras Park when Rhayader Town headed home with all three points after a 6-0 victory.

Rhayader certainly know where the goal is – their last three games have seen them rattle seven past Knighton Town Reserves, nine past Felindre and then eight past Hay St Mary’s  – with that win coming at Hay.

So, it’s promising to be a big ask tonight, but here’s hoping the Reserves can rise to the challenge.

The kick off at the Weirglodd will be at 7.30pm.
