Presteigne St Andrews FC won the club’s own Otway Cup when they beat Clee Hill on penalties in the final played at Llanandras Park on Saturday, 21 July.

In a lively game, Clee Hill took the lead only for Shaun Harris’ young side to hit back and equalise through Tom Crichton.

Presteigne then went in front with less than 10 minutes remaining when Jordan Cooper scored with a fiercely-struck free kick into the bottom corner that gave the visiting goalkeeper no chance at all.

Just when it looked as though Presteigne would hold on, a degree of panic set in at the heart of the defence and a looping header beat the desperate dive of the home side’s keeper to tie the game up at 2-2 with only a couple of minutes remaining.

As this was a pre-season game, the sides very sensibly dispensed with the extra half-hour and went straight to a penalty shoot-out.

It was four-all after the initial five spot kicks for each team – although the quality of the penalties was largely outstanding.

In the end, an unfortunate Clee Hill player blasted his kick over the cross bar and the cup went the way of the home side.

But the final was a credit to both sides who produced an entertaining encounter and the club would like to thank Clee Hill for providing the opposition in what was effectively last season’s Otway Cup final.

We would like to place on record our thanks to KC Electrical for their continued and much valued sponsorship of the Presteigne Otway Cup final.
