‘Weedo’ acknowledges the Reserves need to up their fitness levels

My thanks to Reserve-team joint-manager Mark Weiland for forwarding his observations regarding his side’s latest pre-season game in which they took on Orleton Colts at Llanandras Park on Friday, 3 August.

While the Ressies finished up on the wrong end of a 4-1 scoreline, Mark felt this had been a very useful exercise in terms of their build up to the new Mid Wales League (South) campaign.

“This was a very useful run out against a good side but the main thing to emerge from it is that we very much need to work on the fitness,” said Mark.

“Tom Lewis was our goalscorer but I am also pleased to be able to confirm the signings of Jack Brindley, Billy Hyett, Jordan Griffiths and Liam Blythe, Terry Williams and goalkeeper Darryl Gower.

“We have also managed to keep almost all of last year’s squad which is always a bonus.

“Next up for us is Kingstone away this Saturday afternoon and that will be another serious test as they got promoted last season to the Herefordshire League Premier Division.

“As you might expect, they have strengthened again so this is likely to be another tough game.

“It will take a few games for the new boys to gel and for everyone to get their fitness levels up to where they should be but I think we can improve on last years fifth-place finish.”
