Presteigne St Andrews FC bowed out of the FAW Trophy at the first hurdle as they went down 3-2 at home to Four Crosses in their second-round tie at Llanandras Park on Saturday, 15 September.

In truth, while Presteigne got better as the game went on, they twice had to come from behind and when the visitors took the lead for what proved to be a decisive third time there was to be no way back.

These were the observations of George Lancett on this one.

‘Four Crosses scored inside the first five minutes and, although Tom Lewis equalised for Presteigne with a penalty they led again at half-time.

‘Presteigne improved in the second half and equalised after good work by Duane Anning who set up Tom Crichton to score with 10 minutes to play.

‘However Four Crosses won with a penalty they were awarded inside the last five minutes.’

But manager Shaun Harris was far from dispirited by this showing as he felt it had been the side’s best performance of the season.

So, it’s an early exit from both the FAW Cup and Trophy this season but we have made ‘progress’ in the Radnorshire Cup.

Rhayader Town were due to visit Llanandras Park on Tuesday, 18 September but they pulled out of the tie citing a lack of available players.

This means they forfeit the tie and so Presteigne will head through to the next stage of the competition.
