Sadly, it’s a case of ‘another week, another team pulls out of the league’ as news comes that Brecon Northcote are to withdraw from the MMP with Norman Lloyd second division with immediate effect.

In a brief statement, Northcote say they are very sad to have to take such a decision but the recent departure of a number of players has left them with no option.

It is with deep regret that Brecon Northcote must withdraw their senior side from its position in the Mid Wales League 2.

‘After last season’s amazing experience we have simply lost players while a loss in attitude has created such divisions within the club that players were simply not willing to [drop down] to play for the first team – something we have found difficult to stomach.

‘We appreciate this will involve sanctions and punishment and – more seriously – a fine.

‘We also therefore have to withdraw from any cup associated with the first team.

‘We intend to retain Brecon Northcote Reserves in the Mid Wales League (South).

‘We can only apologise for this drastic action – the vast majority of the club are deeply disappointed in the actions of the various players who have only aided this demise from 3rd place in MWL2 to barely finding a team to play each week.

‘If our apologies could be sent to each member club, especially those who are affected by the expulsion of our results.’

Presteigne St Andrews FC are among those clubs most directly affected as we will lose three league points we picked up from the 3-1 home win over Northcote last month.

We wish Northcote all the best for the future and hope they are back in senior football with a sustainable side in the near future.
