Presteigne St Andrews FC’s scheduled home tie against Shobdon in the Hay St Mary’s Invitation Cup has been postponed.

The match was due to be played on Tuesday, 19 March at Llanandras Park.

But an inspection of the pitch on Tuesday morning led to club officials taking the only decision that was open to them as parts of it were deemed very wet.

“There were serious concerns about some areas of the pitch as they really are very wet indeed,” said a club spokesman.

“We took into account the views of the groundsman as he would then face the daunting task of turning the pitch around for Saturday’s scheduled home game.

“While the forecast is better for the rest of the week there were very real concerns that if we had gone ahead with tonight’s game then Saturday’s match would inevitably be in doubt.

“So, in this instance, it was a case of discretion being the better part of valour and we will reschedule the Hay Cup match as soon as we’ve had the chance to talk to both Shobdon and the cup committee to come up with a mutually convenient date.”
