A tough game at Talgarth for the Reserves

Presteigne Reserves are now heading into the home straight of what has been a demanding schedule of matches in recent weeks – not least because several Reserve-team players have also been called on for first-team duties.

The 2-0 home defeat by Penybont United in the week means the Reserves are currently in ninth spot in the Mid Wales League (South) table with two matches remaining.

The highest they could finish would be eighth as they are two points behind Brecon Northcote with two games remaining.

Alan Stocker’s team will head to Talgarth Town on Saturday, 20 April knowing they are in for a very tough game but doubtless keen to rain on the home side’s celebratory fireworks.

Congratulations to Talgarth Town who will be crowned champions after Saturday’s game as it will be their final match of the season.

Talgarth are currently a point clear of second-placed Llanidloes Town Reserves but the Daffs’ second string have finished their fixtures so nobody can now overhaul Saturday’s hosts.

Incidentally, this game will double up as a semi-final tie in the Hay St Mary’s Ron Ellis Cup.

Best of luck to the Reserves in this one – here’s hoping they can cause what would be something of a shock in this their final away league match of the season.

Alan Stocker’s side will round off its league programme with a home game against Builth Wells Reserves on Wednesday, 24 April (kick off: 7.30pm).
