Presteigne St Andrews FC opened their MMP with Norman Lloyd second division season with a heavy 8-1 home defeat against Waterloo Rovers on Tuesday, 13 August.

However you wrap this up, there is no getting away from the fact that this was a poor start to the season.

But, as they always say, ‘what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger’ and it’s important we keep this in context and don’t dwell on it.

After all, we all knew Waterloo were going to be a major threat as they had opened their season on Saturday with a good win over a Newbridge-on-Wye side that is expected to be up there and challenging this season.

Newbridge underlined just how good that Waterloo win was by turning round and beating Rhayader Town 3-0 in their Tuesday-night fixture.

Our thanks to Bryn Roberts who had to take charge of the first team for this one due to Terry Williams being unavailable – for totally understandable reasons.

We were 5-0 down at half-time and then 6-0 down shortly after the break before we pulled one back.

Tom Crichton was on target in this one while Thomas Ellis scored five times for Waterloo Rovers.

So, the first team will have to lick their wounds and regroup ahead of the trip to Abermule on Saturday, 17 August.
