It wasn’t to be for Presteigne St Andrews FC as they were beaten 6-2 in their MMP with Norman Lloyd second-division game at Borth United on Saturday, 7 September.

But when you conceded twice inside the first seven minutes it is always likely to be a long way back and this is precisely what happened in this game.

Borth were quickly out of the traps and goals from Clive Morgan and Bryn Oliver had them seemingly well in control.

But, to their credit, Presteigne then came more into the game and they were rewarded when they were given a penalty on 2t minutes that was despatched by Tom Lewis.

At 2-1 down at half-time Presteigne were clearly still very much in the game but the same failings that had blighted them in the first half were to strike again after the break.

After conceding twice in the opening seven minutes of the first half, so Presteigne were to ship two more goals in the first five minutes after the break with Clive Morgan – again – and Gethyn Ap Dafydd effectively putting the game beyond our reach.

Substitute Ryan Davies then netted twice in five minutes to put the icing on the cake as far as Borth were concerned, although Presteigne did have the final say when Lewis Jones netted with six minutes remaining.

Reading between the lines, this was not a great performance and the evidence would suggest there is clearly a need to be more switched on defensively as a team at the start of each half.

Next up, it’s back to Llanandras Park for a FAW Trophy tie against Caersws which promises to be another strong test.

That game will be played on Saturday, 14 September when the kick off will be at 2.30pm.
