First team on the road – Reserves at home

A frustrating week all round

The Reserves have home advantage this weekend

After a somewhat barren weekend last time around – in terms of success for either side, at least – it is back to it on Saturday, 18 January when we hope for better things.

The first team will head to Waterloo Rovers for their game in the MMP with Norman Lloyd League second division.

Earlier meetings between the sides this season were not exactly productive as far as the first team was concerned but the challenge is to buck that unwelcome trend when they head to Welshpool this weekend.

The omens for the season were, perhaps, writ large on the opening day back in August when Waterloo headed home from Llanandras Park with with the three points after a 8-1 victory.

When the sides met again at Presteigne in the first round of the ER Jenkins Cup it was little better for the home team with Waterloo running out 8-2 victors on that occasion.

But Waterloo have won only one of their last four league games and here’s hoping Alan Stocker’s side can take full advantage of an apparent mid-season Waterloo wobble.

As for the Reserves, they’ll doubtless be licking their wounds after last weekend’s disappointing Mid Wales League (South) defeat at Felindre.

It will be back to Llanandras Park for Bryn Roberts’ side as they prepare to host Talgarth Town.

The visitors are currently third in the table and have lost only two of their 12 league matches so far this season so they will clearly pose a major test.

But the Reserves pushed Talgarth in the first league meeting of the season before going down 3-1 so they’ll hopefully draw strength from that performance.

On top of this, it appears as though Talgarth haven’t played a league game since Saturday, 7 December so they will either be champing at the bit and keen to get back into it, or a bit ring-rusty after the lay-off.

No prizes for guessing which which of those all those of a Presteigne persuasion would prefer!

The kick off at Llanandras Park will be at 2.00pm and admission will be the usual £2.00 for adults and £1.00 for senior citizens and youngsters under the age of 16.
