A disappointing weekend all round

It was to prove a frustrating weekend for Presteigne St Andrews FC as both the first team and the Reserves were beaten in their respective matches.

The Reserves were first into action when they hosted Newcastle on Friday, 6 March.

This was a Pip Samuel (Electrical) Mid Wales League (South) cup tie and Newcastle were to come through 3-2 in what was reportedly a competitive quarter-final contest.

The first team made the long trip north to Dolgellau for their MMP with Norman Lloyd League second-division game on Saturday, 7 March.

This always had the makings of being a tough game but, in the first half, Presteigne more than matched their hosts.

Alan Stocker’s side fell behind in the first half but they grew into the game and Marcus Pearce levelled before the break.

Early in the second half Presteigne went in front when Sam Roberts was on target but this served to spark Dolgellau into life.

First of all they came up with an equaliser and then went on to close out a 5-2 victory.

There was further bad news for Presteigne at the end of the game with reports Duane Anning has damaged his ankle ligaments and could well be out for the rest of the season.

Danny Evans picked up a hamstring injury and this was due to be assessed early this week.

Club chairman Mark Weiland also revealed Tom Crichton is leaving the club to take up an offer from Kington Town so he didn’t figure at Dolgellau.
