Under 18s come unstuck at Ludlow

Presteigne St Andrews Under 18s’ recent good run of form came to an end at Ludlow Town on Wednesday 31 March when they were beaten 4-0.

Manager Trevor Gummer admitted it had been a very disappointing night for the Under 18s.

“It wasn’t the best of games not least because we gifted them three goals,” he said.

“We were especially sloppy in the first half when, to be honest, I felt some of the lads were not battling as hard as they should have been, while the back four was half asleep.

“But, to their credit, they did wake up after the break and produced a much better showing in the second half,” he added.

Ludlow scored twice in each half and Trevor admitted a number of his players were looking very tired towards the end of the game, although he singled out goalkeeper Joe Prosser for particular praise for a number of fine saves, and one in particular late on.

This was always likely to be a stiff test of Presteigne’s recent improved form, though, as Ludlow Town are second in the HFA Floodlit Youth League table and went into the game knowing they needed a win if they were to keep up the pressure on the leaders Pegasus Juniors.

Trevor’s side has two matches left in their league season – both at home – in which they will take on Leominster Minors on Monday 19 April and then another attempt to play the twice-postponed match against Hinton on Monday 26 April.

It is hoped to have a more detailed report on the game at Ludlow up on the site at some stage on Thursday 1 April.
