Under 18s on the look out for players

Trevor faces potential problems putting together a squad for next season

Under 18s manager Trevor Gummer is likely to be on the look out for players for next season’s squad after a FAW ruling over senior clubs was reiterated at a recent Central Wales FA meeting.

Welsh football has been under the ‘one player, one club’ ruling for some time and this will impact on the Under 18s as CP Llanandras’ proposed elevation to the Spar League division two next season will see them classed as a senior side.

So, any Under 18 player on the books of CP Llanandras will not be able to play for Presteigne St Andrews’ Under 18s as, in the eyes of the FAW and Central Wales FA, this would class as a player representing two separate clubs.

This wasn’t the case last season as CP Llanandras were classed as a junior club as they played in the Mid Wales League (South).

Complicated, yes – and, while ‘rules is rules’, it does strike me (and others) that rulings such as this hardly help promote football at our kind of level.

So, while Under 18s’ manager Trevor Gummer was always going to be on the look out for additional players due to some of his squad going over age, he is now likely to be searching out even more potential players, so, if you can help then please point them in Trev’s direction….
