Trip no treat for Banw

Presteigne St Andrews FC
Presteigne have their first Spar League points of the season

Well, it has been a long time coming, but Presteigne St Andrews finally have their first win of the season after a 3-1 success at home to Dyffryn Banw.

Connor Bird, Mark Weiland and Joel Layton – reportedly with a screamer – were the Presteigne goalscorers and the win was the more impressive as goalkeeper Luke Brimfield was sent off after about half-an-hour for bringing down a Banw player who was bearing down on goal.

Tom Ammonds took over between the sticks and 10-man Presteigne were able to close out the victory.

Well done to Barry Williams, Phil Parker and the squad for picking themselves up after the disappointments of the midweek Radnorshire Cup exit at Llandrindod Wells to secure what was a vital win.

To be honest, any win was vital but, given Dyffryn Banw were second-bottom of the table, this one was perhaps especially important.

Meanwhile the Reserves had a day to forget – they exited the Pip Samuel (Electrical) Mid Wales League (South) Cup when they lost 1-0 at St Harmon.

I have only the vaguest details on this one after a brief conversation with manager Andy Crowe, who suggested his side had been very poor for the first 50 minutes – well, he didn’t actually say ‘very poor’, he said something much worse, but I have to bear in mind youngsters and those of a nervous disposition could be reading this.

After this they had thrown everything at St Harmon and had done everything but score, but they were unable to find a way through.

More details to come after I have spoken to both managers and reports will appear on the site at some stage either on Sunday 31 October or Monday 1 November.

Presteigne win 3-1 at home… and Hereford win 5-0 away… Carlsberg don’t do ideal weekends, but if they did……
