First team nets five against Penparcau

Presteigne St Andrews FC
Connor Bird netted twice in the first team's win over 'Arky

Presteigne St Andrews proved that, despite the fact they are destined to finish bottom of the Spar League first division this season, there is still a fighting spirit within the squad as they beat Penparcau 5-2 at Llanandras Park.

Presteigne opened out a three-goal lead with Danny Ives, Connor Bird and Callum Matthews all on target only for the visitors to hit back with two goals of their own before the interval.

But any of those in ‘cynics corner’ behind the goal (and I number myself among them when I am there!) who had thoughts of a Presteigne second-half collapse, well, these were to prove unfounded as Connor Bird struck again before Tom Hooper rounded off the scoring with Presteigne’s fifth goal.

There will be a more detailed report up online at some stage on either Sunday 1, or Monday 2 May just as soon as Barry Williams has had time to put finger to keyboard and send me over his considered views on the day’s proceedings.

But well done to the first team, for whom the season will be rounded off on Wednesday evening, 5 May when they will take on Llanidloes Town at Llanandras Park (kick off 7.30pm.)
