First team reprieve from relegation?

Presteigne St Andrews FCRumours are doing the rounds both locally and on various websites that the first team might yet be reprieved from relegation from the Spar Mid Wales League first division so, in order to try and clarify the situation, this is the position as the club understands it.

Chairman Alan Randell informed the committee at last week’s meeting there was a chance we might be saved from the drop, but stressed that at this stage it is no more than a possibility.

“Welshpool Town were relegated from the Cymru Alliance last season and so would normally then take up a place in the Spar first division,” he said.

“But we have been informed there is a chance that Welshpool might well ask to play in either the Spar League second division or the Montgomeryshire Amateur League next season while they try to get things back on an even keel.

“The league is in a difficult position as Welshpool have until the Spar League AGM in June to make a decision so that leaves things in limbo.

“Should Welshpool decide to drop down a league or two then we would benefit by being offered the chance to stay in the first division.

“But, at the moment, it remains only a possibility and nothing has been decided although clearly we could do with knowing as it impacts on our planning for next season as we need to know which league we are likely to be in,” he added.

The club will post further information on the website as soon as we know anything further but at the moment this really is as much as we know.
