First team opens with convincing victory

Presteigne put the Woofferton goal under pressure

Presteigne St Andrews FC opened their pre-season programme with a convincing 9-0 home win over Woofferton at Llanandras Park on Saturday, 31 July.

Trevor Gummer was forced to field something of an experimental side for this one due to holiday commitments as well as a number of players being unavailable because of work.

Trev had to play in goal himself, but in truth he had little to do as Presteigne proved far too strong for the visitors as they opened up a convincing first-half lead.

To be honest, I wasn’t there for the whole game, so don’t know all the goalscorers, but did see Callum Matthews net with a good strike while Alan Stocker and Mark Weiland also finished neatly in that first period.

Max Powell was in the Presteigne starting line up while Richard Wilding played alongside him at the back.

Woofferton are on their way back into league football after a season in abeyance and are due to play in the Herefordshire League first division in the coming campaign.

While there were no new players on view as such, this was an encouraging start for Trevor’s squad and something for them to build on in the remainder of the pre-season programme.
