Presteigne St Andrews FC bowed out of the Central Wales Cup at the first-round stage when they went down 4-0 in their derby game at Knighton Town.

Knighton reportedly started the game the stronger and the general view was that Presteigne and their followers could have few complaints when the home side took a first-half lead.

But this appeared to stir John Haycox’s side into action and they grew into the game towards half-time.

But Knighton held that one-goal advantage at the break and then they built on this in the second half.

In the end the Bryn-y-Castell side closed out a seemingly comfortable 4-0 victory, but many felt that – while Knighton were deserved winners – the margin of victory was harsh on Presteigne who certainly played their part in what was an entertaining game.

It has been a tough run of recent results for Presteigne St Andrews, but they will need to regroup before next weekend’s Mid Wales (South) League Cup tie at Newcastle.

CP Llanandras are also due to be in League Cup action on Saturday, 9 October – they will head to Felindre for their first-round tie.
