Presteigne St Andrews FC held a Committee Meeting on Tuesday, 11 January.

This was held at the Farmers Inn and there was a healthy turn out of committee members for the meeting which was chaired by Mark Weiland.

While there will always some issues that will need to remain within the committee, it was felt that there is no reason why some of the items discussed should not be publicised on the website.

So, this is by no means a definitive record of what was raised at the meeting, but rather a few discussion points.

Work on the ground: It was reported that the painting of the rails hadn’t been completely finished, but the pandemic had brought a stop to this.  It was felt that when the weather improves and hopefully restrictions are eased, then this would be completed. Those responsible for the work so far were thanked.

Following the change in Covid-19 regulations from Welsh Government, it was confirmed an up-to-date risk assessment had been completed.

Otway and Sparey Cups.  Following a check with the Cup rules, it was confirmed that both Presteigne St Andrews and CP Llanandras would have to play in the Sparey Cup. The Otway Cup is a senior cup and so junior clubs can’t figure. It was further agreed four clubs should be invited into the Otway Cup and eight into the Sparey Cup.

It was confirmed the club has every ambition to return to senior football for the 2022-23 season but this would depend on there being vacancies in the league and our being accepted.  It was further confirmed the club had been asked if it would like to submit an expression of interest in a return to the Mid Wales League and we have done so.

Presteigne St Andrews FC’s manager John Haycox gave a report on how he feels the side has performed so far this season and also on how he sees things moving forward. He was of the view – as was the committee – that, while we would need to add some players to the squad to be competitive in the league above, this should not be at the expense of the home-grown talent.

Covid-19 meant there had been no Christmas Draw in 2021 so it was felt we needed a drive on the fundraising front. It was proposed to hold an Easter Draw while there was also discussion about possibly holding a fundraiser over the Queen’s Jubilee weekend in June.

Finally, it was reported it is possible to get a ‘defibrillator in a bag’ which would be kept in the clubhouse and so would be available on match days. The cost of this was thought to be around £400. It was agreed to further look into this while, if we opt to pursue this, John Bright offered training to anyone who might be interested.

The meeting was declared closed at 9.00pm.
