13 teams in Spar Division Two next season

Hay St Marys (hooped shirts) will be back in the Spar League next season

Presteigne St Andrews FC will find themselves up against 12 other teams in the Spar Mid Wales league, second division for the 2012-13 season.

While the division can take up to 16 clubs, there will be a number of changes for the coming campaign as a number of clubs have decided their futures lie elsewhere.

Meifod attended the Spar Mid Wales League’s Annual General Meeting and informed the committee they would be withdrawing from the league with immediate effect.

After a season of struggle last time around in which they lost points for failing to fulfil fixtures, they have clearly decided they would be best suited by a return to the Montgomeryshire Amateur League.

It was already known that Tregaron Turfs would be leaving the league and they had made their intentions on this front clear towards the end of last season.

It had been thought Bettws might join the league but they apparently had a late change of heart and will remain in the Montgomeryshire set up.

Aberaeron and Four Crosses have been promoted to the first division, but no club has been relegated and only one promoted from the Mid Wales League (South).

Hay St Marys are back in senior football after their promotion was ratified at the AGM – the Forest Road club finished runners-up to Newcastle who can’t be promoted as they are based in England.

There should be no shortage of derby matches for Presteigne in the coming season as – in addition to Hay St Marys – Talgarth Town, Rhosgoch Rangers, Knighton Town and Llandrindod Wells will all play second division football.
