Weedo pleased by good all-round performance

Presteigne Reserves’ player-manager Mark Weiland has praised his side for a solid performance in their 2-0 home win over Radnor Valley on Saturday, 28 December.

“Both teams started well with good football being played and we took the lead after about 15 minutes,” said Mark.

“A Spencer Napolitano corner was cleared to Bobby Bird who knocked it straight back out to Nappy, who I think meant the goal, although some say it was an over-hit cross which put us 1-0 up.

“Radnor hit the post from a corner with their aerial threat and they had quite a few corners in succession which we just about defended.

“We were then awarded a free kick about 25 yards out and ‘Rambo’ [Anthony Vernalls, who is very good from a dead ball situation, stood over the ball.

“I said ‘just hit the target’ and, to be fair, he did but keeper Will Fowden let it squirm through his legs – it was a soft goal, but ideal for us.

“Will Fowden did then make a top quality save from Alan Stocker right before half-time.

“I said to the boys at half time Radnor are a side that never gives up so we needed to go again, and to be fair we did straight after the break.

“We got another cross in and another Stocker header was again brilliantly saved by Will Fowden so I think he made up for the soft goal he conceded.

“There were hardly any chances throughout the rest of the second half as Trevor Gummer didn’t have a shot to save all second half as our back four was solid.

“It was good to get the three points while we benefited from having a game after Christmas before what is promising to be a massive month of January.”
